The CAN.HEAL consortium recognises that prevention, diagnosis and treatment should be approached in a concerted way for optimal benefit of patients and citizens. We focus on applying ‘next generation sequencing’ technology and identifying implementation paths to extend the application of genetic profiling to structure omics use in patient care, share data among EU Cancer Centres which would improve equity in treatment, and allow better counselling regarding cancer risk using molecular tumour profiling biomarkers. We wish to set the framework for integrating the Genome of Europe biobanking initiative into public health genomics for cancer.
Build on distinct use cases towards developing an integrated approach to improve access of individuals and cancer patients and survivors to prevention , diagnosis and treatment of cancer through personalised medicine.
Genomics for Public Health:
Cancer diagnostics and treatment for all:
Define key legal and ethical requirements for cancer genomics.
Develop training tools.
Develop recommendations for the implementation of personalized approaches in the healthcare system.
Our goal is to support the development of effective cancer prevention strategies and policies and implement personalised medicine approaches for all cancer patients in Europe. We are working towards developing an integrated approach to improve access of individuals to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer through personalised medicine, by upscaling available innovation in the field of innovative cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Setting up a network of cancer centres across Europe by creating a European Cancer Patient Digital Centre will certainly help transform cancer culture and communication among stakeholders and improve the quality of life of cancer patients and survivors, their family members and carers, and everyone with an increased risk of cancer.
Our mission is to raise awareness of cancer predisposition to prevent and predict cancer, diagnose early on and treat the correct targets, as well as to transfer knowledge and expertise to patient care.
