On 27 March 2025, the CAN.HEAL project held its final event in Brussels, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders to reflect on the project’s outcomes and contributions to advancing equitable and personalized healthcare across Europe.
As part of the event, a video series was recorded to capture key reflections from project partners across work packages. The interviews highlight achievements in genomic integration, prevention strategies, data governance, and implementation challenges.
Featured participants include:
- Angelo Maria Pezzullo, Luigi Russo, Eleonora Pascucci, Erika Giacobini, Bedo Taha, and Niccolò Valentini (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, WP14), discussing evidence-based recommendations on molecular tumour boards, polygenic risk scores, and liquid biopsy.
- Matt McCrary (Hannover Medical School), co-lead of the Public Health Genomics arm, focused on integrating genomics into public health strategies and Andres Metspalu (Tartu University), on the diversity and scalability of polygenic risk scores across Europe.
- Hélène Antoine-Poirel and Chloe Mayeur (Sciensano), addressing ethical governance, citizen engagement, and genomics in the patient journey.
- Jeroen van Rooij (Erasmus Medical Center, WP4), leading biobanking and genomic data coordination, and Anke Bergmann (University Hospital Würzburg), addressing genomic data use for public health.
- Stefania Tuveri and Tom Broeckx (KU Leuven, WP6), contributing to the cancer and pregnancy use case and research valorisation.
- Stefania Boccia (Gemelli Hospital and Università Cattolica, WP10) and Annalisa Trama (National Cancer Institute Milan), highlighting the translation of recommendations into healthcare systems and links to joint action JANE2.
- Monika Kolanowska (Medical University of Warsaw, WP8) and Claudia Prats (AQuAS Catalonia, WP3), sharing insights on implementing tumour molecular boards and evaluating the maturity of genomic innovations.
- Joris Vermeesch (KU Leuven), offering strategic perspectives on bridging the gap between genomic research and real-world public health implementation.
The video series offers a concise and accessible view of the individuals and institutions that have shaped CAN.HEAL’s direction and policy outputs.
